The Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society (BACAS) meets the last Tuesday of each month
6:30pm at the Bucksport Town Office. The mission of The Bucksport Area Cultural Arts Society is to stimulate the arts within the community and schools, provide a suitable space for the performing arts which is also audience friendly, provide work and display areas that enable a strong community and academic arts program, and promote life-long learning experiences for the citizens of Bucksport.
Bucksport Garden Club - The club plants and maintains town window boxes and The Buck Memorial Library garden and sponsors community and youth prgrams. Meets April - September - the second Wednesday at 10am in member's homes with guest speakers. Call 469-0077 for more information.
Civic and Social Groups
Bucksport Senior Citizens Center, Broadway Ext., open Monday - Friday for all seniors in Bucksport, Orland, Verona, Prospect, Orrington and Stockton Springs. Noon meal served Mon, Wed, and Friday for tose ages 60+ (unless disabled or with a spouse age 60+). Activities are open to those ages 55+ - games, music, crafts, trips and special programs. Call 469-3632. Bingo is played each Tuesday at 6pm. The doors open at 4:15pm. Bingo also is played each Thursday afternoon at noon. The doors open at 10am. There are card games each Monday evening. Duck Cove Community Club of Bucksport works for the upkeep of the 106 year old Little Yellow Schoolhouse - the only one left in Bucksport still in original condition. Meet 3rd Thursdays (except July - Sept) 5pm with potluck supper at Schoolhouse, Rte 46, Duck Cove. Members raise money each May with a yard sale & bake sale to benefit Bucksport Community Concerns, SADD, Fort Knox and others. Visitors welcome. Call 469-2805.
Family Support - A Bucksport Bay regional family support meeting is held at the Jewett School Community Center at Bridge Street and Broadway from 6 to 8 pm on the first Thursday of each Month. Verona Island Women's Club raises money for scholarships as well as giving fruit baskets to sick and shut-ins and Thanksgiving baskets to Verona Island's needy. Caters the Town Meeting supper on the last Saturday in March; Hunters Breakfast and a Craft Fair in November. Meetings are 1st and 3rd Thursdays, September - June, 7p, at Verona Town Hall. Nature and Environmental Groups
Coalition for Sensible Energy, statewide, advocates for an promotes sustainable energy, production and use. Public meetings in the Bucksport area with speakers. Call Pam Person, 469-6770.
Friends of Craig Brook formed in 1995 to support Craig Brook National Fish Hatchery in protecting teh Atlantic salmon and their habitat. Meet 2nd Thursdays at Fish Hatchery at 3:30pm and sponsor events. Call 469-2803.
Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust seeks to conserve forests, wetlands and lakeshores in Orland and surrounding communities for wildlife habitat and recreational use, and to provide environmental education in the community. Annual meeting in July. Call 469-2008.
Sports
Penobscot Bay Rod & Gun Club, West Side Drive, Verona, promotes safe hunting. The club meets 1st Tuedays and sponsors a members only rife range in October. Call 469-2261.
Bucks Mills Rod & Gun Club seeks to preserve the sportsman & woman's way of life. Meets 3rd Thursdays at the Clubhouse on Bucks Mills Road. Call 469-2388.
Family Snowmobile Club educates people on and promotes safety, ethical and environmentally sound snowmobiling and trail establishment in the Bucksport area. Support Groups
Al-Anon- Al-Anon meets on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the corner room at Elm Street Congregational Church. This group consists
of family members and friends who meet once a week to give support and knowledge to others
on how to deal with an alcoholic or a person who is recovering from alcoholism. Solutions and
strategies are discussed to help family members and friends deal with this addiction.
Alcoholics Anonymous - This group is open to
men and women who have a problem with alcohol or who are recovering from an addiction to
alcohol. This group comes together once a week to get support and knowledge about this addiction
from others in the group. No dues or fees are required to join this group. The goal is to stay
sober and help people to attain sobriety. These meetings are held in this area each week.

Alzheimer's - The Bucksport Bay Friend' s mission is to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment for adults, in which we will offer individualized physical, cognitive, and social activities, in order to enhance the lives of the participants as well as the lives of their caregivers. 469-1112

Chronic Illness Support Group - A chronic illness support group meets in the corner room each Thursday
from 10-11:30 a.m. Elm Street Congregational Church. This group is open to anyone who may need support from friends who
can relate to your chronic illness and who want a safe place to share your feelings and
concerns about your chronic illness. The group meets regularly to discuss issues related to
adapting to your chronic illness. The issues discussed include grief, loss, depression, the
family impact of chronic illness, the stigma associated with a chronic illness, etc. This is an
informal group led by people who have a chronic illness and is free to attend. For further

Veterans
American Legion assists and aids American veterans, and supports community projects and holiday celebrations. Bucksport's Post 39 sponsors Dirigo Boys State, Memorial Day Parades, flag dedications and disposal, funeral services and food baskets for local veterans and decorating veteran's graves.
